Senior Year Movie Reveiw

Senior Year

Senior year is the best year of a high school student because it is the last year of school before they go to college, the army, or they go to work. This is a movie about a high school senior Michael Harrison who's is played Michael Harrison. This movie was like documentary about a high school senior going through his final year of school. Ators that played a role in this movie were his parents played by Kenny Harrison and Susan Harrison and his teachers. I would give this movie a 5 star rating because it is a classic that you will never forget and it is pg13.
The beginning of the year started of good because it was full of excitement and everybody was happy to see each other again. Michael Harrison was excited to be back at school because it was the final year of school for him and he was ready to fly through the year and graduate. Tje first semester of his year was easy because Michael only had 3 classes and that seemed like a pretty easy schedule. But in the first semester Michael hit a traffic jam, the School Wide Writting Assesment. In order to graduate from Freeport High School you have to pass this Assesment. He did not pass the first try and failed by one point the secound try. He took it a third time and he is still waiting on his scores.
During the movie the people that were also a big part of the movie were the teachers that helped him like Mis. Gagne played by Mis. Gagne. She helped Michael prepare for all of the tests and big writing assiments that he took in high school. She helped him prepare for the School Wide Writting Assement that he is still waiting on for a score. Michael's parents helped him a lot to because they were always there when he was stressed out and needed some one to talk to.

After watching Michael Harrison's senior year I think it was a classic film of your avarage high school student. The film was very well played out and all the characters in the film were really good. I would recommend watching this movie to people who like to watch documentarys. All in all I thought this movie was really good and I would watch the movie all over again

Valentines day through the eyes of a guy and a girl Final

I chose this assiment because I thought I wrote it really well. I chose it because it was one of my better Writting  assiments that I wrote and I got a good grade on it as well.

Valentine's Day Through The Eyes of a Girl and Guy

Valentine's Day is a day in Febuary where you should be spending time with your significant other because it is considered a romantic day. What would be the the ideal Valentine's Day through the eyes of a girl and guy?
I decided to interveiw my cousin Jairet Harrison and his girl freind Emily Gamache asking them both the same set of questions about this romantic day, so I can compare their answers. When I asked Jairet what he thought Valentine's Day was all about he said "It's about spending time with your girlfriend and showing them how much you love them". Then I asked Emily what she  thought it was about and she said "I think it's about taking time out of your busy schedule to spend time with your boyfriend". Jairet and Emily both think that Valentine's Day is about spending time with someone you love. I also asked them what a would be a good gift to give someone special and jairet said "Usually I get a charm for her bracelet or a nice piece of jewelry and I always get a nice bouquet of flowers". I asked Emily the same question and she said "I would get him a card and something sentimental and personal or make him something".
When I intervewed male and female they both thought that it was a romantic day to spend time with someone you care about. Most of the questions I asked them, they had similar answers except for the last question. The last question was, "Do you plan out what you want to do on Valentine's Day ahead of time?" Jairet said he does not plan ahead of time, he just goes with the flow. Emily said that she likes to plan the day ahead of time because it is easier to go through the day with ideas of what to do.
Valentine's Day is a romantic day for both males and females. It is a day were you show how much you care about someone. After interveiwing both male and female, the answers I got were different but both had the same idea of Valentine's Day being a romantic day.

2nd Editorial Final

I picked this writing assiment to be part of my final because I worked hard on it. I picked this one because I got a good grade on it and I though I wrote it really well and did a good Job on it.

                                                            RSU 5 Splitting Up

Reginal School Union 5 (RSU 5) has been an RSU for 5 years with Freeport, Pownal, Durham and now their has been talk about Freeport wanting to pull out of the RSU. An article from the Bangor daily news says: "The unrest stems from the June 11 referendum vote in which voters from Durham and Pownal outweighed Freeport’s support for a proposed $16.9 million renovation and expansion at Freeport High School". This is why Freeport wants out of the RSU becaue they did not get the new school that they wanted.
I think that the RSU 5 should stay together and not split apart. It should not split apart because Freeport is a small town and if they pulled out of the RSU then they would lose half of the students coming in as freshman every year. My opinion is that the RSU should stay together because as students who live in ether Freeport, Pownal, Durham, we come here for free and if Freeport pulls out parents in Pownal or Durham will have to pay for their kids to go to Freeport or were ever they chose to go.
I interviewed three students from Freeport high school, Morgan Karnes a sophomore said: "Personally, I feel like the RSU should stay together. As someone from Durham, I think freeport is a great place to be and go to school and I enjoy it. It would be a hassle for both Durham and Pownal students to pick up and find somewhere else to go to school". Other than school Regan Lynch and Isabel Peredy both freshman said that skill level in sports would go down because a lot of good athletes come from Durham and some from Pownal.
Oposing arguments are that Freeport wants to pull out of the RSU because it will get them a little extra money to build a new school. I have seen signs around Freeport that say it will give kids better learning enviorment's and it will make it a lot safer because with a new building comes better security and better ways to keep that bad guys out. To challange this I think we should just keep updating the building like they did to the main office door, you have to buzz in and the people in the main office unlock the door if the want you to come in.

To sum it all up I don't want to pull out of the RSU becaue what I think is that the people in south Freeport want to pull out if the RSU so then they can revote and get a new school and new athletic fields. I would rather stay in the RSU and keep things they way they are.

Vox Pop

This is an assiment we did for my journalism class. We had to think of a question and go around and record peoples answers. My question was Who is your role model? This was a really good qestion because I got a lot of good answers.

Pixar Movie

After watching a clip of Partly Cloudy it seems like it would be a good movie to watch.  It is an animation that is about clouds make babies and the storks deliver them to their homes, but one cloud makes dangerous babies that hurt the stork. Eventually the stork turns on the dark cloud and goes to the good cloud and that makes the dark one sad and mad. But the stork comes back with protective gear on and the dark cloud is happy again.

My opinion about this film would be it is a good one because the animation was good because the created of the characters must have put a lot of time in the characters to make them look good and make sense of what they were. and there were no real confusing parts in it and all the stuff made sense in the film for the most part. I could not really tell how the proformers did because there were no words, just animation.

Movie Review intro

If I was going to see a movie I probably wouldn't consult a movie review cause that is kinda boring to me and I just want to watch the movie.

Info that movie review can offer is what happens and were it takes place and the climax and who the main characters are and how it is set up.

I don't think young people consult movie reviews at all because they just want to watch the movie. Movie reviews don't realy mean much to young people.

Aspects that have a positive or a negative impact in a movie review is how many stars it has. Is it a five star fim, 4 star, thre star so on.

College Crossroads

1) What is your idea of what the perfect college for you might be? Why?

My idea of a perfect college is a college were I can go and learn about the trade I want to do with out taking any core classes in the the prosess because if I know how to do math and read and write then I think that I will make it just fine the rest of my life.

2) If you’re a student who is finished with the college process, what advice would you give high school juniors?

Advice that I would give high school juniors would be that to make sure you go to a college that you know is the right one for their level of learning because if you don't then college will be really hard for you.

3) In the end, how much do you think it matters where you go to college? Why?

I think it matters a lot were you go to college because what ever you want to do for a living that is something you need to think of when looking for a college.

Should businesses use SAT scores

1) Do you think SAT scores could be a good indicator of future career success? Why or why not?

No I don't think that SAT scores should an indicator for your carrer because the SAT does not question you on jobs and stuff, it is just a test to see what colleges you can get in to.

2) If you were on a hiring committee at a workplace, would you consider SAT scores as part of an applicant’s materials?

If I was to hire someone to work for me in the landscaping buissnes or construction business I would not ask for their SAT scores because the sat has nothing to do with work like that. If I was hiring someone to be a banker or something like that then probably I would ask for sat scores.

3) Should there be an expiration date on the scores’ being considered as part of a prospective employee’s application? If so, what should it be?

Yes their should be. Is should expire after 20 years because when your in your fourths you are not going to remmeber your sat scores and or were you could find your scores.

Scientists Sound Alarm On Climate

1) How much does the topic concern you in general? Why?

This topic in general does not really concern me all that much. It doesn't concern me because were I live climate  change does not really effect me or anything I do. It is one of those topics I think about but it is just not that important to me.

2) How much have you learned about climate change in school? What do you believe about it?

I have been taught about climate change in school a little bit, but most of the information I know about climate change I have learned on my own. I believe that global warming will come one day but it won't be coming for a while.

3) How compelling do you find this most recent report to be?

This report I find a little compelling to me but it did not really spark my interest any because the places were there was global warming threats are know were near were I live so I was not really compelled by this report much.

Should Colleges Ban Fraternities?

1) Do you want to join a fraternity or sorority? Why or why not?

I would not want to join a fraternity or sorority because I am happy with my life and don't want to join a fraternity group. Fraternity groups are just a group of people that make fun of and pick on others just to make themselves feel good.

2) What do you think fraternities could do to police themselves? Is what Sigma Alpha Epsilon doing enough?

What they could do to police themselves is maybe not abuse or harm people with violence. If they need to make fun of people just keep it vocal harassment. The Stigma Alpha Epsilon is not enough to police themselves.

3) What do you think would be lost if there were no fraternities on college campuses? What might be gained? Would banning fraternities substantially lessen problems like sexual violence and alcohol-fueled injuries and deaths on college campuses or not?

Banning Fraternity groups would solve some of the violence and alcohol injuries but there are other students in collage that would still use alcohol and violence. Things that college campuses would gain from banning fraternity groups would mean there would be a lot less hazing.

Thumbnail Editorials

1) Weather in Maine:  Weather in Maine is really unpredictable. Sometimes we get nice sunny days and sometimes we get crappy dark rainy days. My opinion on weather  in Maine is I like it because we get all four seasons of each year and all types of weather.

2) Facebook:  Facebook is a free online social media site that allows you to connect with friends and family members from all over the world. My opinion of Facebook is the I like to go on and see what is going on and see what other people put on. I post stuff to every now and then.

3) Spending Money:  Money is what people use to pay for stuff like food, gas, bills, etc.  some people spend their money foolishly and some people spend their money on important stuff. I like to save my money and spend it on important stuff like gas, and food, and if I have some extra money I will buy something for myself.

4) Having or getting a job:  Having a job is how people make their money so that can make a living. I have a job and that is how I make my money to pay for my gas and other important stuff.

5) Senior Privileges:  Senior Privileges are privileges for the students that have been in high school for four years. I think that any senior should have privileges to leave school when they have a study hall and should be able to leave school for lunch.

Fate and Family History

— How much control do you think you have over your fate?
I think I have a lot of control over my fate. Ways that you control your fate is doing stuff that determines it. Like doing something bad or good has some sort of impact on your fate.

— Do you think you will be better or worse off than your parents? In what ways? Why?
I think I will be better off than my parents in life because I have a full time job right now and I am getting paid real good for a kid who is still in school and I know how to manage my money and stuff like that.

— Do you feel your fate is already predetermined by your lineage — your parents and ancestors? Or do you feel you are in the driver’s seat in determining your own success?
Yes I think my fate has already been chosen based on my family history. My family is a hard working family and I think fate has made the decision that I will be a hard working kid, because I have a good job I and I am making a good amount of money.

Pulitzer Prize 2010 Winners

The Pulitzer Prize is an award for an achievement in American journalism. The awards are the culmination of a year-long process that begins early in the year with the of 102 judges, and are asked to make three nominations in each 21 categories.

1) Tod Robberson, Colleen McCain Nelson and William McKenzie were awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2010 for The Dallas Morning News.

2) The purpose of their editorials is clearness of style, moral purpose, sound reasoning, and power to influence public opinion.

3) After reading two articles I have found that the they interviewed people and talked to people to get the information they needed.

4) I read two articles and I thought that this section was a little bias "No wonder resentments run high in southern Dallas when the rest of the city looks down on certain neighborhoods with disdain, wondering why residents don't fix things up". This looks bias because it sounds like it is the writer talking.

5) The length of the pieces I just read is longer than a feature article, and the tone of the articles were more serious than a feature article.

WHAT is your opinion: Is everyone creative, and can everyone learn to be more so? WHY or WHY not?

Everyone is creative is someway. Creativity comes from imagination and thinking outside the box. People can learn how to be more creative by thinking of something that bothers them and coming up with a creative way to fix the problom.  Like if a leg on a chair breaks you can be creative on how to fix it like taking a new peice of wood and putting were the old leg was.

1) Not having benches in the FPAC to eat lunch on. Solution: build benches for the FPAC.
2) desk's that wobble. Solution: fold a piece of paper up and put it under the leg.

What are Sawatzki's rules of interviewing?

Don't ask yes or no questions because you won't be getting the information you need. Keep your questions short so you have a main focus on that question.

What are things not to do while interviewing?

Dont ask yes or no questions because you won't get any information.

What troubles or challanges have you encountered when conducting interviews?

Challanges I have encountered are thing of questions that are not yes or no questions. Also thinking of questions to ask the person I am interviewing.

What can you do in future interviews to elicit more detailed and informative responses?

To get more detailed respones in future interviews is to probably ask a questions with follow up questions about what their answer might be.

Who does Hip Hop belong to?

  • Should Macklemore be apologizing? Is his apology sincere? Is it appropriate?
I don't get why he is apologizing. Does it matter if your white or black, Macklemore should be happy about his Grammy cause he won it fair and square and he should not even worry about what the other nominees think. If you are a white man singing a black mans music and your better at it than them, that means that they have to work a little harder to be better.

Who does hip hop belong to?

I think hip hop belongs to anybody that wants to do it. I am not a fan and will never ever ever be a fan of the crap but I think that hip hop should belong to anybody that likes to sing it, black or white. There are a lot of black men in the music industry and most of them are in the pop and hip hop and rap part of it and they are probably pretty good at it. Most if the white men are in the rock and country and rock and roll part of it but if some white guy wants to be a hip hop star, let him have at it.

I chose these pieces of writing because these were the essays I did the best on and I worked hard on both of these pieces of writing. The personality profile was the better one to write about because I was writing about something I was interested in. The collage essay was a little harder to write about because I had to remember the information off the top of my head. The process I used to create the personality profile was I interviewed my cousin Jairet about him and his racing career, that is were I got most of my information. I mostly asked question about what got his racing career started and how he felt about his first time racing a car. The process I used to create the collage essay was that I had remember how my drivers test went off the top of my head.

Both of my essays had its parts that were strong. "I remember when Jairet and I were racing go karts around my uncle Rick's shop, and Jairet hit my go kart and he flipped his on the side. After the go kart stopped tumbling when he got up he said that was fun and started laughing. It was so funny to watch. now he races cars and I hope to be racing cars too someday". This passage came from my personality profile. This is a good passage because it is the beginning of the profile and I really thought that this is a good lead. I think it is a good lead because it gives you an idea what the essay is about and it tells you what me and Jairet did before getting race cars.

Collage Essay

Prompt: Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.
The morning that I woke up was a nervous morning for me because I was going for my drivers license. It was an early spring morning and it was a sunny day outside. I was frightened about the test because I did not want to fail my test. When my father and I left the house to go to Portland to take my test, I was un easy all the way there, just thinking about what was the outcome going to be.
When we got there I was really shaking and unsteady at that point and when we walked inside I saw my instructor. He was about 5"12" and about 280 pounds and he looked like a sergeant that just came from boot camp.
When we went on my road test I was on edge, gripping the steering wheel tight with two hands and I was focused on driving and nothing else. I did everything right and when we got back to the DMV he handed me a piece of paper that was my temporary license, and I was so excited I passed.
Getting my driver's license was a big step to adulthood because that meant I had to get a job to make money to pay for the gas in my truck. That is a sign of going from childhood to adulthood. The day that I got my license I was really excited that I was able to drive myself around, but then I realized that my parents weren't going to help pay for my gas. That meant I had to get a job and start working after school and work all summer so I could make money. Being able to drive yourself is a really good feeling because you can drive yourself to friend's houses, drive to school, and drive to wherever I want to go. When I got my license, I felt a sense of responsibility and independence  come over me. I felt like a kid on the inside, but on the outside I was becoming an adult.

Personality Profile

(Draft Letter)
Dear Reader,
My favorite part of writing this personality profile was being able to write about something that is interesting to me. Parts that we're interesting to me was the entire profile because it was about racing and how my cousin Jariet races and how he started racing and stuff like that. My favorite part of the profile was "when Jairet and I were racing go karts around my uncle Rick's shop, and Jairet hit my go kart and he flipped his on the side. After the go kart stopped tumbling when he got up he said that was fun and started laughing. It was so funny to watch". This is my favorite part because it is about me and him racing our go karts around his dad's shop. We would put tires around the shop and shaped it to be like an oval track and we would race each other.
This writing is probably better than other writing I have done because it is something that interest me and I was really focused on this piece of writing because it was interesting to me. Other pieces that I have written are not good because there about something we are learning in a class in school and I don't like school. This piece is better than other ones that I have written becuse I put a lot of detail into it and I was interested in the topic I was writing about. What I hope the reader takes away from my piece is that my cosin Jairet is a really good person and a really good race car driver. I hope you enjoyed reading my piece of writing about my cousin Jairet and his racing carrer.
                                                                                                      ~Michael Harrison~

(Final Draft)
I remember when Jairet and I were racing go karts around my uncle Rick's shop, and Jairet hit my go kart and he flipped his on the side. After the go kart stopped tumbling when he got up he said that was fun and started laughing. It was so funny to watch. now he races cars and I hope to be racing cars too someday.
Jairet got interested in racing because he has been surrounded by it his whole life and when he got a chance to race at Beechridge Motor Speedway he took it. The first car that he raced was owned by Tim Chambers. Jairet raced Tims car in the wildcat divison on saterday nights. When Jairet was strapped in the car with moments away from his first race he said he was feeling nerves but yet he was excited too.
During his season racing the wildcat divison he started off the seaon running in the back of the pack. Toward the end of his first full seaon of racing, he was running up in the front of the pack running with the big boys and was able to finish second place one night. That night was a big night for him and he said "That was really exciting and it felt good to do good, I will never forget this race". When the season came to the end he was able to finish 10 in points, and was able to win rookie of the year.
After his seaon came to an end in the wildcat divison, Tim chambers found someone else to race the wildcat car. Jairet had to find a new car to race. Ken Farley had a car that he had my father race in the sport series divison at Beechridge Motor Speedway part time. He told Jairet, "I will let you race this car next seaon". Jairet was going to beracing in the sport series divison at Beechridge Motor Speeway. now jairet had to get enough money to race all season and get mony to fix the car before the season started. Jairet said that it was streesful paying for a car, driving a car, and fixing the car when it breaks; it is really overwealming.
During the season in the sport series divison it was not a good season. Jairet said that it was a stressfull season, trying to drive a different car and trying to get the setup right. When I asked Jairet what he was plning on doing next season, he told me he was racing the sport series divison again but he thinks this upcoming year will be a good one. "We have figured out the car and I have figured out how to drive it so I hope I do better next year.
But Jairet is taking a break from the sport series division and stepping down a division. Jairet bought a car called a strickly stack car to race at Wisscasset speedway every other Saturday night. This car that he bought can also be raced at Oxford Plains Speedway Friday nights in the divison called the outlaw sportsman. Jairet said that "this should be a way to save money while racing becaus itis cheaper to race, it should be a lot funner racing this car".
